Hello everyone!
I'd like to discuss some things about our production division. I've been recently appointed as production manager, and there are a few issues that need some light shed upon them.
Money
It's what we are after. Unlike a real world corporation that would provide a 'community service' (and make a few bucks on it) our only goal should be to make the biggest pile of isk humanly possible. I would like to maintain a healthy reputation so scamming is not the way to do this in my book.
The money is what it's all about (and respect, fun and friendship from fellow corp/alliance mates).
My first suggestion is that we start working as a team. This chain of things is quite complicated, but to simplify:
1. Find the best thing to produce for most profit.
2. Find the materials (blueprints (research) + building blocks (farming vs buying))
3. Produce
4. Sell or use
The above might require a nice mixture of logistics as well.
For a team effort to work there has to be a certain level of trust and communication involved. Preventing someone from taking something from the corporations assets is pretty difficult and we should leave that up to capo di tutti capi Cloora.
As a suggestion to prevent money theft, perhaps money should be transferred to xxx (master wallet?) when a division wallet gets too 'attractive'.
My second suggestion is keeping personal funds and corporate funds separate. We should only allow purchases with corporation funds if a player can prove he or she will be able to make more money for the corporation with that purchase.
Bookkeeping
It is very important to keep track of where our money goes. Everyone that uses corporation funds should leave messages (on withdrawals’ and deposits) whenever possible to clarify what you are doing.
Materials
Getting materials by 'farming' versuss buying them off the market. This is fairly difficult to calculate. Farming takes time you could have also spend on other things that might make more money. Therefore, when producing always make a pretty solid estimate on the cost of your materials, and put it into the books!
Blueprints
To maximize the ability to make money, the production division might (sometimes) need research done on the blueprints. Here is one of our current problems we have.
What blueprints do we have in our possession? Where are the blueprints? Who has/should have access to the blueprints? Who does the research on these (if production turns out to be profitable)? How do we prevent theft?
As a suggestion, I'd think it would be a good idea to start a private forum thread that contains a library of our blueprints and the research that has been done on them. It will have to maintained (a research manager should be the right person to do this). This way we should be able to build a library, and take (some/all) of it with us if we decide to live in lower security space to reduce logistic issues by building things ourselves.
Summary:
- Work for the corporation instead of self
- Communicate
- Together we can build up a huge corporate bankroll
- Keep control of the cash
- Keep control of the blueprints
